Custom Walnut Slat Accent Walls - William’s Architects

As part of our work inside this 15-story professional building in Itasca, we fabricated and installed six custom walnut slat accent walls using premium architectural-grade walnut. The bare wood alone exceeded $10,000 before any sanding, staining, or fabrication—highlighting the level of material quality and responsibility behind this scope.

To achieve the cleanest possible look and minimize visible seams, we sourced and installed boards longer than 16 feet. Getting material of that size into a high-rise building created major logistical challenges. Coordinating access, protecting the wood, and maneuvering long boards through tight corridors and elevators required careful planning—but we executed it without compromising the material.

Each slat was individually sanded and finished with a double coat of stain on all sides. After cutting to final size, all exposed ends were re-stained for a seamless, furniture-grade appearance.

Installation demanded precise 3/4-inch spacing across every wall. With no traditional backing, each piece was bonded to the wall and discreetly fastened, with nail placement minimized to preserve the clean architectural lines.

The result is a high-impact walnut feature wall system that adds warmth, depth, and a refined architectural statement to the space.
